BURSARIES AVAILABLE FROM HEREFORD COLLEGE OF ARTS FROM OCTOBER 2009
New full-time students starting Higher Education courses (BAs & Foundation Degrees) at Hereford College of Arts from October 2009 will be eligible for the following:

Bursaries:
Every UK student will receive £540 as a cash payment in their first year of study, and £210 in each subsequent year direct from the College. This bursary is not means-tested and does not affect students’ eligibility for applying for maintenance grants or loans (see below).

Every student who is means-tested as eligible to receive the full Higher Education maintenance grant of £2905 (see below) will also receive £320 cash direct from the College.

Students should apply to Student Finance Direct as early as possible for assessment, even if they are unsure of their final place.

Notes:
All bursaries quoted at current rates, which may be subject to inflationary increases or revision in subsequent years.

Bursary cash payments to students will be phased through that year of study.

Eligibility maintenance grants will be subject to conditions set by the Student Loans Company: i.e. maintenance grants will be means-tested.

Students who are already studying an FDA course here at the college if they go on to a top-up BA (Hons) will just be eligible for a £210 internal progression bursary.

Residential Bursaries
Support is intended to provide financial assistance to learners who would otherwise be prevented from attending a Further Education Course.

Applicants will normally have had to move to Hereford from outside Herefordshire in order to continue their education. Most applicants will be moving to temporary, rented accommodation. We shall consider applications from Herefordshire residents who feel they have a special case.

Applicants must be studying full time for a Further Education qualification.

Please remember that each application is judged on the basis of ‘relative financial need’ and that not all applications will be successful. Applicants in receipt of Welfare Benefits will be required to show proof of current benefit payments. Learners are advised that any awards made, may affect their own or parent’s entitlement to means tested state benefits. Money shall be paid directly to the Landlord one term in advance.

Applicants must provide evidence of income and living expenses. The continued payment of an award depends on a minimum college attendance of 80% of course hours. If attendance falls below 80% the award may cease.
