Searching for a Job

Pro-active job searching means setting in motion a number of positive activities that ultimately will lead you to finding the perfect job for you. Sounds easy put like that but, depending on what area you are aiming for, can be a time consuming business.

What would your ideal job be? List all the benefits that you want from your ideal job you actually want from your job? What are you personal values and ethics?

First steps consist of a self analysis process. (See ‘Make yourself employable’ section) You will need to spend time asking yourself searching questions about what you want to do in the future. Ask yourself what you enjoy doing. One way to do this is to log on to Pathfinder HE+ which is on every student-accessible computer at both the Folly Lane and HE Centre sites. You need to spend 20-30 minutes honestly answering a set of questions that subtly filters your options and choices.

Pathfinder HE+ will offer you a set career choices which you can investigate in detail using the tools offered. Then there are links to other institutions and websites to help you refine your decisions. You can print off the information or save it to come back to at a later stage.

If you think it would be helpful to be guided through this process, get in touch with the college Careers Adviser to book a time when you can have free one-to-one help. HECareers@hca.ac.uk
